We are so proud of Lafourche Parish School Board Member BuffyLynn Charpentier, who is currently serving on the Board of Directors of the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA). Charpentier, who represents District 9 here in Lafourche Parish, was sworn in earlier this spring at LSBA’s annual convention. She was elected to this role by her peers in LSBA, which has more than 600 members representing Louisiana’s 68 locally elected public school systems, and serves the organization as a powerful voice and advocate for all public school students and educators across the state.

Thank you, Mrs. Charpentier, for your unwavering dedication and willingness to serve the students and educators of our local community and throughout the entire state of Louisiana!

Louisiana’s results on the National Education Scorecard were released Wednesday, and the Lafourche Parish School District continues to demonstrate marked growth among our peers, particularly in the area of math.

Lafourche Parish was one of four Louisiana school systems recognized as a “District of the Rise” for showing exceptional progress in math compared to similar districts around the state. LPSD received similar recognition last fall for demonstrating the third-highest growth in math proficiency in grades three through eight on LEAP.

“This recognition is a testament to the effort of our students and the unwavering dedication of our educators,” said Superintendent Jarod W. Martin. “This achievement reflects countless hours of hard work in our classrooms and a collective commitment to academic excellence across the district. While we celebrate this significant milestone, it also serves as a catalyst for future growth. We remain steadfast in our mission to build upon this momentum, ensuring every student has the tools and support necessary to reach their full potential.”

Overall, Louisiana was number one among states in reading growth, number two in math growth, and the only state to surpass 2019 levels in both reading and math.

We are incredibly grateful for our families and our community for their continued support as we strive for excellence. Let’s keep moving forward together!

Claudia Landry of Raceland Upper Elementary School received the Chairman’s Award, and Andrea Daigle of Thibodaux High School was the recipient of the Distinguished Teacher Award. Winners were selected based on their commitment to teaching, resourcefulness, professional involvement, and community service and were recognized last week at the chapter’s Teacher Award Luncheon at the National World War II Museum

.The API Teacher Award Program was established by the Delta Chapter in 1987 to pay tribute to and reinforce outstanding teaching in the New Orleans metropolitan area, including the parishes of Jefferson, Lafourche, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Tammany and Terrebonne.

Congratulations Claudia and Andrea on your selection, and thank you for your untiring efforts in educating the students of the Lafourche Parish School District.

The costumes are diverse and colorful, including: Monochromatic Groups: Multiple students dressed entirely in bright green as toy soldiers and others in solid red body suits. Character Costumes: Individuals dressed as a pink hippopotamus, a yellow rubber duck, Raggedy Ann, princesses in pink and blue gowns, and a student in a red cardboard robot suit. Whimsical Outfits: Students wearing inflatable suits, clown makeup, a banana costume, and a Humpty Dumpty-style egg outfit. Background The background features the exterior of a high school with large windows reflecting the overcast sky and a contemporary white metal facade above the brickwork. The overall mood of the photo is festive and high-energy.

Both wear a consistent monochromatic costume: a high-gloss green jacket and pants, green gloves, and a bright green helmet with their faces painted entirely green. Left Performer: Holds a large pair of bronze-gold cymbals vertically in a crash position. Right Performer: Holds a larger set of vertically stacked cymbals, looking forward as they hold the instrument in place. Background Details The performance takes place on a wooden stage floor.
