"Some of my favorite hobbies are spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy reading and shopping! However, right now most of my hobbies involve watching my two boys play football and baseball!" What is a fun or unusual fact about you that most people don’t know? "A fact that continuously surprises people is that my husband and I are both named Jamie." What inspired you to choose a career in education? "I come from a family of teachers! My dad was an educator for 40 years, and my mom for 33. My uncle also worked in the school system, and my cousin is still teaching today." What is the most rewarding part of your job? "The most rewarding part of my job is witnessing firsthand the profound impact our phenomenal staff has on some of the district's smallest learners. Seeing a child learn to write their letters and then read their very first words is absolutely amazing! Everyone on our campus gives their all every single day as we collaborate to help our students learn and grow. Lockport Lower is truly a special place!" What advice would you give to someone just starting a career with LPSD? "If I could give one piece of advice to someone just starting out with LPSD, it would be to ask questions. Teaching is beautifully rewarding but undeniably tough, and you aren't meant to do it in isolation. Across our parish, we are surrounded by an exceptional community of experienced professionals ready to support one another. Remember that you are never alone! There is a whole team of people ready to lift you up and help you out." What is your professional motto? "Growth is Growth, No Matter How Small!"

Spotlight on Lafourche Schools: Jamie Granier

For today’s #SummerSpotlight, we are proud to highlight Jamie Granier, assistant principal of Lockport Lower Elementary.

Jamie has been a dedicated team member of the Lafourche Parish School District for 13 years. A 2006 graduate of Thibodaux High School, she went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Communicative Disorders from Nicholls State University in 2010, followed by a Master of Arts in Teaching from NSU in 2013.

After starting her career in a neighboring district, Jamie found her home in Lafourche Parish a year later when she joined the staff at St. Charles Elementary. She spent seven years in the classroom there, earning Teacher of the Year honors during the 2016–2017 school year. She subsequently spent three years as an instructional coach, serving at North Larose Elementary, St. Charles Elementary, and C.M. Washington Elementary, before stepping into her current administrative role two years ago.

“Jamie is a remarkable assistant principal and educator,” said LKLES Principal Aimee Angle, who nominated her for the Spotlight. “She is a wonderful leader who consistently represents our school with professionalism, dedication, and compassion. She goes above and beyond in every aspect of her role, always stepping in to support teachers and lighten their workload whenever possible. She strives to create a positive school culture. She encourages both staff and students to strive for excellence. In her two years at LKLES, her commitment to our school community has made an impact on everyone she serves.”

For Jamie, the journey to leadership meant taking a leap of faith. She says the moment that has had a lasting impact on her was when she decided to step out of the comfort zone of her own classroom to become an instructional coach.

“Leaving the daily rhythm of my own room was very intimidating,” she said. “However, that transition fundamentally shifted my perspective on education, allowing me to move from impacting one classroom of students to supporting an entire campus of educators. Stepping into that role gave me the unique opportunity to learn and grow under three different principals across my schools. From them, I learned how to lead with empathy, analyze data through a broader lens, and partner with teachers who give their all every single day. That choice ultimately solidified my passion for school-wide leadership.”

That shift in perspective continues to define how Jamie approaches her work today. Whether she is connecting with our littlest learners or encouraging colleagues through challenges and successes, relationship-building remains at the very heart of her leadership style.

“The thing I enjoy most about my work is the relationships I have the privilege to build,” Jamie shared. “With our students, I focus on being prevalent, not just present. I strive to be a high-energy, positive fixture in their day, rather than someone they only see when they are in trouble. Whether I am celebrating a milestone like a student accomplishing a personal goal, or turning a discipline moment into a teaching moment, I want them to feel safe and supported.”

“With my colleagues, I always lead with empathy,” she added. “Our staff is phenomenal, and they give their all every single day. From day one, my goal has been to earn their trust by being an active partner. I always want them to know that I will be there to listen to their challenges and then work alongside them to overcome them.”

We are extremely grateful for school leaders like Jamie. Her passion for education, heart for mentorship, and commitment to both student growth and staff support exemplify the very best of our district.
