nfographic flyer titled "Spotlight on Kalyel Monsibais," a 4th-grade student at Raceland Upper Elementary. Includes his photo, his favorite subject (Art), his dream job (Baseball Player or Architect), and a question-and-answer section detailing his hobbies, favorite school memories, and advice for younger students.

For today’s #SundaySpotlight, the Lafourche Schools Spotlight is on Kalyel Monsibais.

Kalyel just completed fourth grade at Raceland Upper Elementary School and recently took home third place in the elementary division of the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) annual art contest. His incredible artwork was displayed at the LSBA annual convention in March, giving over 600 school board members and superintendents from across Louisiana a chance to admire his talent. His Mardi Gras-themed work will also be framed and displayed in the LSBA’s Baton Rouge office for the upcoming year.

“Kalyel is a kind and helpful young man with an incredible artistic talent,” said RUES principal Tai Holacka.  “His artwork is museum worthy at only 10 years old, and his kindness makes our school even brighter! I look forward to seeing what this Cub accomplishes as he grows!”

Kalyel’s exceptional dedication, outstanding work ethic and rare artistic abilities also earn the praise of his art teacher, Austin Matherne.

“He goes above and beyond in his work,” Matherne shared. “He’s achieving goals that most of the population could not achieve and at such a young age! He is a pleasure to teach!”

We are incredibly proud to have students like Kalyel representing our district. Please join us in congratulating this talented young artist on his amazing achievements and wishing him continued success in the future.
