For today’s #SundaySpotlight, the Lafourche Schools Spotlight is on Madelyn Fossum.

Madelyn is a senior at Central Lafourche High School, where she is active in FFA, 4-H, National Honor Society, Beta, bowling, TAG music, and shooting sports.  Throughout her high school career, Madelyn has emerged as a skilled leader, serving as both 4-H and FFA president, as well as state FFA parliamentarian. Earlier this year she was selected as CLHS’ 12th grade Student of the Year and the LPSD Student of the Year for the high school level and was recently honored as Miss CLHS.

“Madelyn exemplifies what it means to be a Trojan,” said CLHS principal Zack Hill. “Her strengths lie in not only being an excellent student but also a great person. It was a pleasure to watch her grow as an individual and witness all of her accomplishments.”

Principal Hill’s sentiment is echoed across the campus, particularly within the ag department, where Madelyn has developed a reputation for her tireless work ethic and a heart for service.

“Madelyn is an AMAZING young lady that exudes qualities beyond her years,” said Douglas Triche, CLHS agriscience teacher and FFA and 4-H advisor. “She is dependable as the day is long, and will always give 120 percent until she completes any task she is given. Madelyn continuously strives to better her school and community environments by offering assistance to anyone in need, volunteering and/or facilitating FFA / 4-H leadership activities, and always having a smile on her face with a sunny disposition for everyone she meets.”

Madelyn’s mom, Lynette, says that her positivity is what landed her in a feature story in “The New Pioneer” magazine several years ago and attributes much of her daughter’s success and growth to her experiences in FFA and 4-H at the local, state and national levels.

“Madelyn is self-motivated and loves learning about all things, especially about agriculture,” Lynette said, “She holds herself to gold standards. She is always involved in bettering herself and others around her.”

“We are extremely grateful and thankful to Lafourche Parish School District and all those who actively supported her through the years,” Lynette added. “Your efforts mattered.”

Madelyn understands that success doesn’t happen overnight, but rather it’s the result of consistent, quiet determination. She says the most important lesson she’s learned while a student in the district is that all the small efforts add up over time.

“It's hard to trust the process, but everything works out in the end,” Madelyn shared. “If it isn't working out, then it isn't the end yet. Just keep putting in at least a little bit of effort every day and it will pay off in the long run.”

As Madelyn prepares to trade her green and gold for LSU purple and gold, we couldn't be more excited to see where her journey leads next. Please join us in congratulating her on her outstanding accomplishments and wishing her the best of luck as she heads to Baton Rouge this fall. Geaux Madelyn!
