A blue and gold "Spotlight On" graphic features Jaxon Arnold, an 8th-grade student at Lockport Middle School. His photo is on the left with his name and details. A list of interview questions and answers takes up the right side. Questions cover his interests, a fun fact, clubs, a teacher who made a difference, favorite memory, what he likes about school, goal before graduation, and advice for younger students. For today’s #SundaySpotlight, the Lafourche Schools Spotlight is on student Jaxon Arnold.

Jaxon is an eighth grader at Lockport Middle School where he excels in academics, sports and a variety of extracurricular activities. Earlier this year he was selected as the LKMS Student of the Year and the district’s overall eighth grade winner and was recently named a regional honoree and middle school finalist in the state’s annual awards program.

“Jaxon has been an outstanding example of what we value at LKMS,” said principal Shelley Chiasson. “His hard work and dedication in everything he does are clearly evident. He takes every opportunity to get involved and manages to excel in his efforts. Jaxon is known for his kindness, demonstrating it daily as a friend, classmate and a teammate.”

LKMS agriscience teacher and FFA advisor Teddi Folse echoed these sentiments, praising Jaxon for his ability to inspire his peers and the profound impact he has on his school community.

“I admire Jaxon for the positive impact he has on everyone around him,” she said. “He is outgoing, kind-hearted, and genuinely cares about others, always taking the time to encourage his peers to be the best version of themselves. His intelligence and well-rounded abilities allow him to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom, while his sense of humor brings joy to those around him.”

“What truly sets him apart is his ‘I can’ attitude,” Folse added. “The word ‘no” simply isn’t in his vocabulary! He approaches every challenge with determination and confidence, never backing down from an opportunity to grow or improve. His perseverance, leadership, and uplifting spirit make him a role model among his peers and a truly deserving candidate for Louisiana Middle School Student of the Year.”

Jaxon’s extensive involvement in extracurricular activities like FFA and 4-H have provided him with invaluable experiences that will undoubtedly help him land his dream job in agricultural engineering.

“I have always enjoyed designing and building things with Legos, and I am very involved in agriculture,” he shared. “This career would allow me to combine those interests by working hands-on to design and develop new ways to assist farmers.

By seizing every opportunity to learn something new, hone his leadership skills or serve his community, Jaxon truly embodies the district’s mission of “Developing Lifelong Learners.” Yet, he says the most important lesson he’s learned while an LPSD student was not learned strictly in the classroom.

“The most important lesson I’ve learned is that being too hard on yourself will get you nowhere,” he said. “You have to learn from your mistakes and move forward. Everyone makes mistakes, but what matters most is how you grow and improve from them.”

Jaxon’s remarkable dedication to his studies, his school, and his community is a true inspiration to us all. We are excited to see where his ambition and attitude will take him next, and we wish him the very best of luck in his promising future. Keep shining, Jaxon!
