Today is National School Resource Officer Appreciation Day, and as we celebrate the amazing individuals who keep our schools safe, we are shining this Sunday’s Spotlight on their dedicated leader, Lt. Kevin Brooks.
Lt. Brooks is the School Services Supervisor with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office. He has 26 years of law enforcement experience, including service with the Thibodaux and Plaquemine Police Departments in addition to his time at LPSO. He has spent the past decade in School Services and was honored with a Distinguished Service Award in 2023 for his proactive approach to mentoring students at Thibodaux High School.
A native of Donaldsonville, Lt. Brooks is a graduate of Donaldsonville High School and earned an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Fletcher Technical Community College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and sociology from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, where he is currently enrolled in the master’s program in criminal justice. He received his EMT intermediate certification from Our Lady of the Lake College, D.O.C certification from Angola State Penitentiary and POST certification from the LSU POST Academy in Baton Rouge. He is a graduate of the School Resource Officer Training Academy, the LPSO Leadership Academy and the National Command and Staff College, where he received the Presidential Award.
“Lieutenant Kevin Brooks exemplifies what it means to serve with integrity, professionalism, and heart,” said Sheriff Craig Webre. “As the supervisor of our School Resource Officer Section, he plays a vital role in ensuring the safety of our students and staff while also fostering trust and positive relationships within our schools. He has served as a mentor to numerous students, taking a proactive role in his assignment. We are proud to have Lt. Brooks as a member of our team.”
Lt. Brooks says the thing he enjoys most about working with the students and staff of the Lafourche Parish School District is the impactful relationships he is able to build.
“Earning the trust of students, the community and collaborating with colleagues to support a positive school culture has always been my main goal,” he said. “I love being a part of a team that genuinely cares about the students. Working alongside dedicated colleagues within the Lafourche Parish School District allows SROs to build daily connections with students, making the work truly meaningful.”
The security of our campuses is a huge responsibility, and we are so grateful for our collaboration with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and the unique blend of professional expertise and genuine compassion our SROs bring to our schools every day.
“The safety and well-being of our students and staff are our highest priorities, and we are incredibly fortunate to have Lt. Brooks leading this partnership,” said Superintendent Jarod W. Martin. “He fosters a culture of mentorship and trust, creating a safe, supportive environment where our students can thrive. We truly appreciate his commitment to our students, staff and community."
Please join us in thanking Lt. Brooks for being a true champion for the students of Lafourche Parish. His leadership ensures our schools remain a place where students feel safe, valued and inspired to reach their full potential.
