For today’s #SundaySpotlight, the Lafourche Schools Spotlight is on Annie Licona.

Annie is the daughter of Roger and Brett Licona and is a fifth grade student at Galliano Elementary School. She has two siblings: Joel, a freshman at South Lafourche High School, and Gracie, an eighth grader at Golden Meadow Middle School.

Annie was nominated for the spotlight by GES principal Amy Leblanc for her outstanding contributions to both her school and her community. She was honored as her school’s fifth grade Student of the Year and is a TAG theatre and music student who is also involved in community theatre. She recently starred in a local production of “Annie Jr." put on by Club 1273 Music & Arts Academy.

She shines bright on the stage while shining bright in our community and school!” Leblanc said.

Annie’s parents describe her as a hard worker with a great sense of humor.

“Annie is the jokester of the family.  She's always acting silly or making everyone laugh,” said her mom, Brett. “However, at school she is much more serious and takes on the role of being a leader.  Annie has an exceptional work ethic; in fact, that's what her father and I admire most about her. Whether she is preparing for a role in a play or studying for a test, she always puts forth her utmost effort and dedication.”

Outside of school, Annie has served as a lector at her church every month for three years and she helps care for her grandmother with dementia.

“Annie's relationship with her Nana is so special and it's a beautiful thing to see them interact,” her mom shared. “Annie loves being a fifth grader at GES but is looking forward to going to Golden Meadow Middle School next year.”

We are incredibly proud to have Annie representing our district, and we can’t wait to see the amazing things she will continue to achieve. Please join us in celebrating her hard work and congratulating her on being such a remarkable, positive influence in her school and in the community.
