For today’s #SundaySpotlight, the Lafourche Schools Spotlight is on Crystal Legendre.
Crystal is the secretary for the Communications Department and has been with the district for 18 years. She began her career with LPSD in 2007 as the secretary at St. Charles Elementary before moving to the Central Office in 2014 to work in the Special Education Department. She joined the Communications team in 2020.
A 1991 graduate of Thibodaux High School, Crystal continues her education through the Louisiana Institute for Administrative Assistants (LIAA), where she earned her Certified Administrative Assistant (CAA) designation in 2018.
Crystal assists in all aspects of communicating LPSD news and events with students, families, staff and the community. One of her favorite responsibilities is recognizing the district’s students and staff for their outstanding achievements. She plans the district’s annual retirement social and organizes the award recognition ceremonies that are held at the beginning of each monthly board meeting. She also helps manage the LPSD Facebook page and organizes the district’s participation in the state’s student and employee awards programs.
“Crystal is an indispensable part of the Central Office team,” said Tanya Bolton, Public Information Officer, who nominated her for the Spotlight. “Not only is she fantastic at her job, but she is truly one of the most positive, helpful, caring people you will ever meet. She goes out of her way to assist new employees and help them feel welcome. She is a true unifier, always planning ways to build camaraderie and boost morale amongst the staff. The Central Office and the district as a whole are brighter places because of her.”
Crystal has a front-row seat to the exceptional work being done by Lafourche Parish students and staff, and she loves being able to share those accomplishments with the public.
“The most rewarding part of my job is being able to recognize all the amazing students and employees that make LPSD shine,” she said. “To witness firsthand how much greatness comes from our district that may otherwise go unnoticed is gratifying. Everyone deserves recognition on all levels.”
Crystal always loves recognizing others for their outstanding achievements and bringing people together, and her co-workers are thrilled to be able to do the same for her.
“I am so excited to shine a spotlight on Crystal for her outstanding contributions to our district,” said Gwen Martinez, Executive Secretary to the Superintendent. “She is so deserving of this recognition. Time and again, Crystal has gone above and beyond her standard responsibilities. Whether it’s stepping in to assist a colleague during a busy stretch, or taking the lead on a challenging task, she consistently demonstrates what it means to be a true team player.”
“Her ‘can-do’ attitude and willingness to help others not only make our operations smoother, but also ensure that our workplace is a better environment for everyone,” Martinez added. “We are incredibly lucky to have Crystal on our team. She is a vital asset to this district.”
Crystal’s commitment to the community of Lafourche Parish is evident in everything she does. Please join us in thanking her for almost two decades of dedicated service to the district and for the vital role she plays in making LPSD shine.
