For today’s #SundaySpotlight, the Lafourche Schools Spotlight is on Andrea Rogers.

Andrea is an interventionist at Bayou Blue Elementary School. She graduated from Central Lafourche High School in 1990 and Nicholls State University in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education and 2024 with a master’s degree in educational leadership. She has been a valued employee of the Lafourche Parish School District for 29 years and was named Bayou Blue Elementary’s Teacher of the Year in 2007.

“Ms. Rogers is a reading interventionist, SBLC chairperson, and test coordinator for our school,” said BBLES principal Tina Guidry, who nominated her for the Spotlight. “She has dedicated her entire career to Bayou Blue Elementary school and has earned the trust of the staff and community as a reliable and valuable resource for all things Bayou Blue School.“

“She has been entrusted with one of the most important tasks of teaching students to become readers and yet also handles so many other important and needed tasks at our school,” Guidry added.  “We couldn't do it without her dependability, enthusiasm, and overall "can do" attitude and love for children!”

What Andrea enjoys most about working with students is their honesty and kindness.

“Kids are so genuine—they’ll tell you exactly what they think, and often in the sweetest, most unexpected ways,” she said. “It’s refreshing and reminds me to stay grounded and real. I love the little moments when they show empathy or go out of their way to help someone. It’s those small acts of kindness and honesty that make the job really special.”

She also appreciates the teamwork she finds with her coworkers.

“It’s great to work with people who are just as committed to helping students succeed,” Andrea explained. “We support each other, share ideas, and have each other’s backs. It makes the job a lot more fun and meaningful.”

The moments that have made a lasting impact on Andrea have been the simple reminders of why she does what she does.

“Throughout the years, I have received numerous heartfelt letters from parents and former students expressing their gratitude for the impact I have made on their lives. Each letter serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of the work I do and the lasting influence educators can have,” she said. “These messages have deeply touched my heart and affirmed, time and again, that I chose the right profession. Knowing that I’ve made a difference in someone’s life continues to inspire and motivate me every day.”

Please join us in thanking Andrea for almost three decades of dedicated service to the children of the Lafourche Parish School District.
