This week's Spotlight on Lafourche Schools is on Kelly Tullis.
Kelly is the assistant principal at Bayou Blue Elementary School. She previously worked at Raceland Lower Elementary, and she has spent all 33 of years as an educator in Lafourche Parish. She is a graduate of E.D. White Catholic High and received a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Nicholls State University and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the American College of Education.
Kelly says working with children has always brought her joy, and she has never even considered any other profession. She loves the children and the people she works with but her favorite school-related memory was having the opportunity to work with her niece.
“Working with my beautiful niece, Lauren Lapeyrouse Guidry, will always be my fondest memory of my career,” Kelly said. ”I was a master teacher and she was a new kindergarten teacher at RLES, so I was able to work with her and support her growth as she grew into her own as an impactful educator. It made family get togethers fun because we always got fussed for talking excessively about work! I wouldn't trade that time for anything.”
“Ms. Tullis is an outstanding assistant principal at Bayou Blue Elementary,” says Tina Guidry, BBLES principal, who nominated Kelly for the Spotlight. “She is a faithful and long-standing employee of Lafourche Parish School System for 33 years. She has been a teacher, interventionist, master teacher, administrative assistant, and assistant principal. She is super knowledgeable of all elementary curriculum, handles buses and discipline with ease and grace, handles SBLC/ MTSS, loves all of the students and makes them feel special and motivated that they can truly do anything they work hard for and put their minds to, tirelessly helps all staff to make life a little easier, and she is thankfully my right hand at school. She is a true asset to BBLES and LPSD.
Please join us in thanking Kelly for her more than three decades of dedicated service to the children of the Lafourche Parish School District.
