Title VI - Indian Education Program Overview

Indian Education Program

The primary goal of the Lafourche Parish Indian Education Department is to empower the students with skills that will ensure a quality education, while preserving Native American culture.

This is done through the following services/activities:

  • Educational support in the areas of Math and Reading in schools with the most critical need

  • After-school tutoring
  • Regalia classes
  • Drum classes
  • Summer Enrichment Programs
  • Youth Leadership Camps
  • Providing information on education opportunities post high school

Student Eligibility:

  1. "Indian" is defined by stature. Students are eligible if they are enrolled or have a parent or grandparent enrolled in a recognized tribe

  2. Students must claim tribal membership through one of the following categories:
  • Federal recognized tribe
  • State recognized tribe
  • Tribes must be indigenous to the United States
  1. A valid 506 form signed and dated by the parent or guardian

  2. Once completed and accepted, 506 forms are good for the duration of the student's enrollment of the LEA
